Hi guys, Ed here. Since this has become the unofficial YF blog, I shall post some thoughts here.
Today at formation, we had this informal discussion with Francis about what we can do as YFs to improve the youth movement in HFC. I brought up the point that our voices are not heard since we're hardly represented at any level within the church. I guess that it comes down to the fact that we've all been trained into this 'we can't do shit because the church will shut us down' attitude. Not through any of our faults, but that's the way it has become.
I was listening to this song on the new Linkin Park album, it's called Hands Held High, some of the lyrics struck me as something that we should be aiming for, or trying to do. Val will post the song up soon so you guys can listen to it :)
Here's the lyrics I was talking about:
I wanna see some fists pumping
risk something / take back what's yours
say something that you know they might attack you for
cause I'm sick of being treated like I have before
like it's stupid standing for what I'm standing for
like this war's really just a different brand of war
like it doesn't cater to rich and abandon poor.
Yeah, and another little quote, by Mahatma Ghandi,
"Be the change you want to see in the world."So in other words, this revolution begins with us, so let's give it a shot lah, can't do us any harm right? :)
Okay, so that's my thoughts. Some of you may think I'm being over-optimistic, over-zealous, or just plain dumb.
But those are my thoughts. So comments are welcome, as long as they're constructive, and help our cause.
Cheers,
Ed
